Background

A comprehensive requirements set including business functional requirements and guidance for connecting a Solution to support the development of the Summary Care Record (SCR) functionality for New Market Entrants (NMEs). This Roadmap Item will apply to NMEs only and enables Suppliers to use the SCR Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Application Programming Interface (API) for creating and consuming SCRs.

The requirements outlined in this Roadmap Item will be applicable until a future Roadmap Item for Incumbent Suppliers is agreed, and the legacy/HL7v3 deprecated.

The SCR FHIR API specification contains the implementation guidance only.

The Summary Care Record (SCR) is an electronic record of important Patient information, created from GP medical records that can be seen and used by authorised staff in other areas of the health and care system involved in the Patients direct care.

From an interoperability perspective there are two aspects to the Summary Care Record: 

  1. The creation and updating of the Summary Care Record

  2. Providing the ability for authorised staff to access the Summary Care Record, for which there are a range of options
