Background

Epic “E00124 - convert generic medication into a proprietary medication at the point of prescribing” within the Prescribing Capability currently references the British National Formulary (BNF) in the Additional Implementation Details. As the BNF is a commercially licensed resource, the Epic is being updated to allow for any authoritative source, rather than referencing a specific one.

Furthermore, the Additional Implementation Details section of E00124 has been updated to reflect that Solutions should instead warn when links between generic and proprietary equivalents are not appropriate, removing the need for Solutions to prevent such links.

E00124 - convert generic medication into a proprietary medication at the point of prescribing

As a Health or Care Professional

I want the option to convert a selected generic medication into a proprietary equivalent when creating medication for a Patient

So that I can see what the proprietary equivalent medications are and select one of these if more appropriate

Acceptance criterion 1: view proprietary equivalents for a generic medication at the point of prescribing

Given the Health or Care Professional is permitted to manage prescribed medication

And they are creating a medication for a Patient

And they have selected a generic medication

When the Health or Care Professional selects to convert this generic medication into a proprietary equivalent medication

Then the proprietary equivalent medications are displayed

Acceptance criterion 2: select generic proprietary equivalent for proprietary generic medication at the point of prescribing

Given the Health or Care Professional has selected to view the proprietary equivalents for a generic medication

When the proprietary equivalent medications are displayed

Then the Health or Care Professional can select a proprietary equivalent as the medication to create

And the selected medication is created in the Patient Record
