Mental Health Standards
Standards are a set of guidelines that ensure the systems' interoperability, security, and compliance with national and international regulations, as well as clinical standards.
Clinical standards are guidelines that ensure the EPR system meets the clinical needs of healthcare providers and patients and supports best practices in patient care such as SNOMED-CT coding.
In addition to clinical standards, the EPR system must adhere to technical and functional standards to ensure its effectiveness.
Standards in this section are divided into three categories;
Data Standards - NHS
An internal NHS body produces some standards, e.g. Data Alliance Partnership Board, Royal Colleges or Professional Records Standards Body
Requirements -
For Data Standards (NHS) the Supplier MUST provide all the data, in the required format mandated in the wording of the requirements
For Data Standards (NHS) the Supplier MAY provide this data formatted, using a report creation tool or similar.
For Data Standards (NHS) the Trust MUST collate and submit the data to ensure compliance
Data Standards - External Body
These are standards that are produced by external bodies e.g. International Standards Organisation, W3C consortium etc.
Requirements -
For Data Standards (External) the Supplier MUST provide all the data, in the required format mandated in the wording of the requirements
For Data Standards (External) the Supplier MAY provide this data formatted, using a report creation tool or similar.
For Data Standards (External) the Trust SHOULD collate and submit the data to ensure compliance
Guidance Standards
Guidance standards are less defined than data standards and may not have defined acceptance criteria and are designed to give useful information for the implementation of an EPR system and good practice.
