New market entrants should implement this version directly rather than the current Effective version.

Summary of Change

The requirements within Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) have been separated out as reflected below. All suppliers are required to be compliant with requirement 6.4.4 by the 30th September 2020.

The Electronic Prescription Services (EPS) standard has been uplifted to include the new 'MUST' requirement. The new standard is listed below:

Compliance, Assurance and Testing

Once development is complete and suppliers are in a position to test, they must contact the EPS team via epssupport@nhs.net to arrange a witness testing slot. Testing scenarios are detailed below and the EPS team will arrange for the prescriptions to be dispensed to ensures an end to end test is completed. Successful completion of the tests detailed below will constitute compliance against this Roadmap Item.

Scenarios to be covered

One test Rx may cover multiple scenarios:

  • Able to apply FS endorsement to antibiotic
  • Able to apply FS to any item eg painkiller, dressing etc
  • Able to apply FS plus other endorsements eg SLS, ACBS
  • Prescribe only FS items on same Rx
  • Prescribe FS plus contraceptive at same time - are they split?
  • Prescribe FS plus non FS items at same time - are they split?
  • FS displayed on non-repudiation screen
  • FS is removable if applied in error before signing
  • Test in Phase 3 for nominated and non-nominated
  • Test in Phase 4 for nominated and non-nominated
  • Test ability to cancel item and whole prescription
  • Is FS available on all Rx types acute, RP and eRD and all patients etc
  • Future date an FS endorsed prescription - delayed prescribing
  • Note when and how FS applied
  • Any warnings / pop ups
  • FS on separate Rx to others is a 'SHOULD' requirement - note systems that do/don't.
